In 2001, St Rita's Regional Cancer Center was expanded to 40,000 square feet. The facility is a testament to the faith, hope and generosity of the people of West Central Ohio. Some 2000 individuals, organizations and companies contributed to the construction of the center and gardens. The largest single donor was St. Rita's Auxiliary who contributed $600,000 to the project. Enormous patient input was involved in the design of the center from the location of the dressing rooms to sitting on lots of different chair to find the most comfortable structure.
The focus on body, mind and spirit is evident inside and out. The Serenity Atrium is a cascading fountain of water and light. Designed by the Lepo brothers, internationally recognized and local artists, the Atrium was donated by Ar-Hale Foundation and is a source of joy and serenity to all who visit. The four-season landscaping in the Butterfly, Aroma and Tribute Gardens enrich the whole facility. Many individuals, families and friends of St. Rita's donated the flowers, shrubs, trees and benches. The outdoor fountain, donated by St. Rita's employees, is surrounded by engraved bricks donated in honor or memory of family and friends.
Only the skilled staff and enhanced technology eclipse the beauty of the center. All radiation oncology center staff members are certified in their areas of expertise including the physicians who are Board Certified Radiation Oncologists. The American College of Radiology has accredited St. Rita's Allison Radiation Oncology Center. At the time St. Rita's was one of only six in Ohio and only 134 in the country to achieve this accreditation. The American College of Surgeons and the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Organizations also certified with top marks. St. Rita's is the only facility in the region that currently holds all three accreditations for their cancer services.
Some radiation oncology services include:
- Radiation Therapy with Two Varian CD Linear Accelerators
- CT Diagnostic and Simulation (Simulation is Used to "Map Out" the Area to be Treated)
- IMRT Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy IMRT - Targeted Radiation From Varying Angles and Intensities to Maximize Treatment of Diseased Tissue and Minimum Exposure to Healthy Tissue
- High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy, A Type of Radiation Therapy That Places Small Radioactive Sources Within or Next to Cancerous Tissue
- PET/CT Fusion
