The employee contacted Nancy, who took the time to explain what should be done. She provided instructions on wound care and gave some samples to get the family started. On Sunday afternoon, Nancy came to the parents' home. Nancy helped the family go through their supplies, measured the stoma and made a list of what they would need. She showed the family how to change the dressings and care for the wound. She then sat with the overwhelmed wife and gave her moral support. Her reassurance gave the family a whole new attitude. On Monday the supplies were ordered and on Wednesday, Nancy returned to the house to see how everyone was doing and to reinforce the teaching. She did all of this on her own time with no compensation. Her actions brought peace to the entire family. Her Compassion, Human Dignity, and Service were portrayed as well as Excellence and Sacredness of Life. This is not the only time Nancy has gone out of her way to provide both medical and emotional care for a patient and family. She often gives her own time to check on her patients after they leave the medical center. We are proud to name Nancy Gutman, a Legend of St. Rita's. |
