Acoustic Reflex Testing

Acoustic Reflex Testing
At St. Rita's Medical Center, the Audiology department offers several outpatient services to help manage and determine the health of your ears and hearing. In particular, acoustic reflex testing is designed to assess the functioning of the middle and inner ear.

What You Should Know
If you are being given acoustic reflex testing, you should arrive at the Medical Center approximately 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment and check in with Outpatient Registration. This area is located on the first floor of the Medical Center behind the Information Desk in the main lobby. The test will take approximately 15 minutes.

During the test, a small probe will be placed in your ear and a variety of loud tones will be presented. The ear's response to these tones will be recorded. After the test is over, a comprehensive report with the audiologists' impressions and recommendations will be sent to the referring physician.

A physician's order is required. Orders can be faxed to Cardiopulminary Services at (419) 226-9535 or sent to the test with you.
