DEXA Scans

DEXA (Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry) Scan When testing for osteoporosis, there are two types of painless tests. One of these tests is the Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry Scan, or DEXA Scan. This test measures the bone density in the hip and spine. It is the most accurate method to measure bone density and may also be used to precisely monitor changes as a result of treatment for osteoporosis or advancing disease.

This test takes about 15 minutes to complete and is available with a physician’s order at the Women’s Wellness Center at St. Rita’s.
