St. Rita's Medical Center is the only facility in the region to offer Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). This technique treats tumors by varying the intensity of the radiation beam directed at the tumor. This form of therapy targets the tumor by directing the radiation from multiple angles. One benefit of IMRT is that higher doses can be directed at the tumor, while sparing as much normal tissue as possible. Because the radiation is specifically targeted, the cancerous area can receive the highest dose of radiation. |
