Chronically
ill patients and those who are in the end-stage of a disease face difficult
problems like pain management, anxiety reduction and nausea (palliative
care). To address these issues St. Rita’s Medical Center offers patients
palliative care services. Under a grant from Catholic Healthcare Partners
(CHP), St. Rita’s Medical
Center will help ease these problems by providing palliative care therapies,
such as massage therapy and reflexology. The grant funds allow St. Rita’s
to provide services to more than 1,800 patients in various areas of
the hospital. Participants will measure their level of anxiety, pain
and nausea discomfort on a scale of 1-10. The objective is that following
a session of massage therapy or reflexology, the patient’s level of
discomfort will decrease. |
