Audiology Overview
Understanding hearing loss and treatment options...

An estimated 27.2 million Americans or one out of every 10, suffer from some form of hearing problem. Remarkably, only one in every five takes action. Often hearing loss develops slowly over the course of time and is left unattended. Someone who suffers from a hearing loss could be a co-worker, neighbor, family member or even you.

Some common things that may indicate hearing loss:

  • Turning Up the Volume of the Television
  • Frequently Asking Others to Repeat What They Have Said
  • Difficulty Understanding in Groups or in Noisy Areas
  • Difficulty Determining the Direction Sound Originated
  • Difficulty Understanding Someone Talking to You From Another Room
  • Others Indicating You Don't Seem to Hear Them
  • Avoiding Family Meetings or Social Situations Because You "Can't Understand"
  • Ringing or Other Noises in Ears
The first step is to recognize a hearing difficulty and take steps to find a solution. St. Rita's Medical Center can help.
