Awarded Ohio’s first Governor’s Award of Excellence, our registered nurses go door-to-door, on foot or on bike, making sure the poor, the elderly and children are getting the medical care they need. The nurses help residents in Lima’s at-risk neighborhoods monitor their own chronic health conditions, get regular health checkups, get their prescriptions filled, immunize their children against disease and learn to take care of themselves and their families. Since the program began, twice the number of children are getting immunized, fewer people are relying on the emergency department for their primary healthcare and residents are learning how to make good decisions about their health and the health of their families. St. Rita’s Neighborhood Nursing program continues to draw interest from communities across the country for its innovative approach to addressing the issues that take a toll on the health of community residents. |
