At the Allison Radiation Oncology Center, our physicians work closely with patients to determine the best course of treatment. If radiation therapy is appropriate, a simulation is scheduled. To plan the radiation therapy treatment, images are taken of the cancerous area and the surrounding tissue. These images are used to help design the patient's individualized treatment plan - a process called simulation.
Simulation is used to locate and accurately pinpoint the areas of the body that need radiation. Simulation assures the patient is positioned for each treatment in the exact same manner and that the radiation is being delivered to the precise location of the cancer.
The simulation images are used to produce a computerized three dimensional model of the actual site of the tumor. Our staff can then study the affected area from all possible angles in order to treat the cancer from every direction. |
