Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
At the Allison Radiation Oncology Center, St. Rita's offers Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) to treat cancer patients. IMRT is a technique that uses multiple radiation beams varying in intensity. These beams are directed at the tumor(s) from different angles targeting the cancer. The medical advantage of IMRT is that higher doses of radiation can be administered to specific areas of the tumor while sparing normal tissue.

IMRT safely treats tumors which are located very close to delicate organs like the eye, spinal cord or rectum. Simply put, this can translate into a higher cancer control rate and a lower rate of side effects.
